CIFAL Málaga-Summer Course on Water Stress in the Mediterranean: Challenges and Solutions
The summer course was dedicated to an analysis of the challenges associated with water scarcity in the Mediterranean, focusing on the search for innovative solutions and the development of recommendations aimed at reducing the region's water stress, which is strongly exacerbated by the consequences of climate change.
The main organizations that have recently carried out outstanding work in this field (World Bank, Mediterranean Institute for Water, MedyWat, World Water Institute, Union for the Mediterranean, Plan Bleu, GWPMed, Spanish Hydrographic Confederations Ebro, Júcar, Guadalquivir, etc.) were invited to present their work and encourage dialogue within the framework of several round tables on different topics.
1st day: 4:00 PM - 4:30 PM opening ceremony. 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM Keynote Speeches: Effects of Climate Change on Water Resources in the Mediterranean. 6:30 PM - 7:00 PM Coffee Break. 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM roundtable: Water Management Modalities in a Climate Crisis Context. 2nd day:: 4:00 PM - 6:30 PM roundtable: Non-traditional Water Resources and Improvements in Water Supply. 6:30 PM - 7:00 PM Coffee Break. 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM roundtable 4: New Consumption Patterns to Promote Water Use Efficiency. 3rd day: 4:00 PM - 6:30 PM Keynote Speeches: Water Management, Rural Development, and Protection of Mediterranean Ecosystems. 6:30 PM - 7:00 PM Lunch Break. 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM roundtable: Role of Civil Society in Water Management and Distribution. 4th day: 4:00 PM - 6:30 PM roundtable: Water, Forced Migration, and Conflict in the Mediterranean. 6:30 PM - 7:00 PM Lunch Break. 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM Keynote Speech: Research Perspectives on Desalination Techniques. 8:30 PM - 9:00 PM course closing.
The workshop will be carried out at the Technological Headquarters of Málaga, using several technologies to be developed.
